Thumbs up New Design for my Custom set of Ceramics. Comments?

I started a thread on my quest to design a set (History and concept: http://chiptalk.net/forum/custom-chi...ign-added.html ).

Considering the length of the thread and the different iterations of the designs, I wanted to continue the thread here in a new post.

I sweated through learning Photoshop some more just to come up with what I got. This I believe is the keeper. Please provde any comments or suggestions.

Thanks

UPDATE: 031806: Updated pics with suggestions provided up to 031806. Turned the suits. Not quite the single suit water mark as suggested but I put all four suits under "Ike" space.

UPDATE: 031906: Updated pics with denom move and SGL lettering around the chip. I think I'm ready now.

Thumbs up Re: New Design for my Custom set of Ceramics. Comments?

Thanks for the comments fellas! I think I hit the mark with this one!

The answers to some of your questions are in my original thread. But it is long so I'll hit it up in here.

1. I'm thinking about going with either BR Pros, NJ, and/or Chipcos in that order. Right now, everything is pointing me to BR Pros.

2. The fort is "El Morro" In Puerto Rico. I wanted a clean chip with certain things ralated to me. "Ike's Place" is obvious because it's my nickname and I wanted something from Puerto Rico. "El Morro" is the icon PR in many ways. As a matter of fact, that same drawing/pick is the same one on the PR license plates. I created a copy and colored it in. I may still had a phrase to the chip in the ring itself. We'll see later when i get close to put my order in.

3. The differant shading was intentional. The background is actually a picture of the suited cloth that some people put on their tables.

Re: New Design for my Custom set of Ceramics. Comments?

Excellent design.

Just a couple of comments.

Have you considered yellow or gold as the color for your $2 chip instead of pink, which is fairly close to the red you already have?

Or perhaps you could remove the $2 from the chip and let it be a non-denominational chip that you can use as $0.25 or $2 or whatever you like. I am finding that having a ND chip is very useful with my custom set.

The four suits around the rim read correctly only when you view the chip so you can read the rest of it. Another possibility is to orient them so their axes of symmetry lie along a radius of the chip. In other words, they read correctly as you turn the chip.

To test whether this bothers you at all, print out your design and turn the paper around to mimic what chips will look like as they hit the table.

Looks very professional.

Will J.

Re: New Design for my Custom set of Ceramics. Comments?

One other idea:

I presume that you scanned in the image that is in the background that resembles poker cloth with suits on it. If your image is large enough and you can move it around a bit inside your design, I think you might have a chance to do as follows.

There is quite a bit of space under the word "Ike's" and you could adjust the background image so that one suit of the poker cloth is visually in the center of that space.

$1 chip -- use diamond (ice blue)
$5 chip -- use heart (red)
$25 chip -- use club (green clovers)
$100 chip -- use spade (black)

That would lend some very subtle variety to the backgrounds of the chips, and it would look almost like a watermark. No need to emphasize this, just do it and see what the effect is. You'd have one of each of the suits getting that presentation.

Do what you like for the $2 or other chips.

Thumbs up Re: New Design for my Custom set of Ceramics. Comments?

Will thanks for the comments and suggestions!

- on the orientation of the suits on the ring area, I like your Idea. Like I said before, I may put a saying on the ring so the orientation of the suits will change.

- I didn't think of using another color for the $2 other than pink because I wanted to stay with traditional colors for the denoms. Never really thought about having 1 ND chip but I can see how flexable it can be...

- The image of the background was actually a pic off a site that sells the cloth. Your idea on placing it in that empty place is on point! A friend of mine pointed the "space" out and suggested to move the denom. However, I really like your idea. I'm going to mess around with thata bit.

I appreciate the assist!!! BTW: your cube design is another chip that I failed to mention in my original post as one of those nice designs. They are nice!

Great design. I think your graphic will translate much better a Chipco, however, albiet at higher per-chip cost. The rough texture of the other ceramic chips seems to make the graphics blurry, IMO. For example, the wonderful artwork on the American Beauty chips would have come through much cleaner on a Chipco than it does on the NJ ceramic.
